We love this restaurant. For 19.99 you can have a large pizza with two toppings, 10 chicken wings and garlic bread. The pizza has good crust, the perfect amount of sauce and cheese and the wings are the best I've ever tasted. We often order this meal for two of us and take home the leftovers, what a great bargain. The service is consistently good. The spaghetti is also delicious!
This Italian restaurant is a regular spot for many locals. The atmosphere is good if you have a booth. I'm not a fan of sitting at any of the tables.
The wings with mild bar-b-q sauce are the best I have ever had. The fettuccine was a small portion, but after the (oily) salad, nice crusty bread, and wings, I was quite full. I've had the lasagna their and it is a very generous portion, and reasonably good.
Although they have some "heart healthy" menu items, I'm quite confident that the owners are not preparing them the way they should, as most everything seems saturated in oil.
The pop is never mixed right (too much premix) and I have often sent it back. I know just drink their ice tea, which is sweat and lemoney (the way I like it - but others may not).
The staff is very good and polite, although they have a very high turnover. They should really get rid of those disease infested "T's" games on the table.
We have been coming the The Barrel since the early 1990's and have never been disappointed. The food is consistently AWESOME. No matter what we try the flavour, presentation and quantity are tops. There are several dinner choices that can be ordered in a "half" quantity. The wait staff are most helpful and anxious to please. We wouldn't waste our money dining anywhere else in Simcoe. The Barrel is the Very Best! They were the first restaurant in Simcoe to go totally non-smoking and they show heart-healthy items on the menu as well as the grams of fat. You don't find that in many restaurants. I wonder why?
The food here is incredible, it was all so flavourful, you can just tell that it's all homemade (sauces, dressings, breadsticks, meats)... Even our server told us that nothing gets "slopped out of cans or bags like at the big chains". Ang get this -- fresh poultry -- what a concept! None of that chemically tenderized or water-bloated chicken. A great family place.
